Stofen?

After taking another look at the pictures I took at the CLY4EVR wedding, I think I'm in need of a flash difuser.  I'm thinking of going with a Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce.  That would have worked great instead of doing ceiling bounce flashes in the pictures where I was close to the subjects, and a wall wasn't an option.  In my head I'm thinking of a low power ring light and my 580 in a Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce to hit the subject.  That would be crazy expensive, not to mention almost impossible to sync.  I should probably stick to the basics.  Get a cord so I can use my flash in my hand to force different lighting.

if only...

I follow a few websites on a near fanatical basis.  Vicariously, I guess I'm living through the experiences that they blog about.  One of these sites is dpcars.net.  I don't remember exactly when I started reading his site.  It was sometime during 2002 or 2003 that I stumbled upon this crazy car guy's website.  Today, he reaches a milestone that I hoped he would reach.  One of his self designed track cars becomes available for order.  Now if I could only win the lotto...  Anyone have $37,360 I can borrow?

boiling water

Working from home you may think is just so wonderful.  The money and time saved, and the comfort of your own home.  These things are all true.  However, for those that can not cook, working from home can be an adventure when lunch time comes around.  When it's time to eat lunch, if it isn't left overs from last nights dinner, I look inside the fridge like most people look at a car engine.  I'm totaly lost.  Since I can't cook worth a lick, that means I must boil something.  Soba?  Boiled.  Hotdogs?  Boiled.

You can only eat so much soba though.  And even the glorious hotdog is becoming old hat.  So, I ventured outside my comfort zone.  And guess what, I boiled something.  Above is udon (the frozen kind) with enoki mushrooms, swimming in organic chicken broth mish mashed with soya sauce, garlic powder, green onion and a healthy dose of water to make it lighter.   It was alright, but the soup mix could use some work.  Considering almost the entire thing comes from something pre-processed with exception to the enoki, it came together very quickly.  The "ban-chan" that accompanied my udon was stir fried dried shrimp.  I should experiment more with quick fix lunches.

How do you know it's cold in our house?  When Jack is perched on top of our rice cooker.

SuperDawg

Super Dawg has finally opened in Wheeling.  It's about time!  You may be wondering, why do you care about the Wheeling location when you live so close to the original one?  Well, because we are in and around the north suburbs so much, that's why!  It's also nice to show support to places you like.  And I like a good hot dog.

Inside the new Super Dawg

The new Super Dawg looks visibly recognizeable from the outside.  The same neon colors.  The same looking stalls and menu boards.  On the inside, it's a new experience.  A metal stool counter arcs and faces the herding of humanity as orders are entered and numbers shouted.  The wonderful smell of oil, grills, and encased meats penetrates every fiber of your clothing.

Thankfully, the packaging is still the same.  The boxes have come to Wheeling folks!

The Whoopskidawg

It was obvious that a lot of the people that stopped by on opening weekend were not SuperDawg veterans.  I explained to the couple behind me just what a Whoopercheesie was.  They looked astonished and unsettled.

Man behind us:  "Maybe I'll get the Supercheesie then."

Bah!  Amateurs.

While I really like the new place, and wish it were closer to where we live, I couldn't help but miss the fact that I'm no longer ordering through a sliding window.  It's no longer a walk-up affair, but a walk-in.  Maybe it's better for the neighborhood.  They just need to get those big hotdog statues on the roof, and they'll be set to take reign of the fast food ecosystem of Wheeling.

And before anyone complains, I know that it's a drive-in kind of place.  But I've eaten at SuperDawg either on the picnic tables outside or inside the building more than in my car.
