Danny's Ramblings

Books

Writing on this blog gives me time to reflect. I guess it's not something I do enough of. It even feels odd doing so. One of those light bulb moments revealed that I spend my free time in quite a few completely unrelated ways. Its a product of having way too many hobbies I guess. And while it may seem all I'm doing lately is working on Kitty, it's far far from the truth. I've been reading a lot. So far this year I've managed to read:

  • Game of Thrones, all 5 books.
  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
  • Night Trilogy
  • The Red Rising Trilogy
  • Silo Trilogy, finished Wool, half way through Shift.

It's all fiction. It's all more or less rot your brain type material too. It sure is enjoyable though. I've spent more time with my face in a book/kindle than I have watching TV. Incredible.

So far the Silo Trilogy by Hugh Howey has been such a great read for me. I'm fairly certain its the first book or series I've read in a post apocalyptic setting. Which is just nuts since that typically is one of my favorite genre for video games and movies. It uses interleaved story telling, but manages to do it in a way that isn't supremely frustrating. A product of the books actually being a collection of novellas I guess. Still, it's nice. There were times where I'd be reading Game of Thrones and I just wished that George R R Martin would quit it and simply tell me what the heck Tyrion was doing.

More odd ball posts that aren't car related to come.
